Volunteer Opportunities at Howard Village

You can make a big difference here at Howard Village!

There are numerous Volunteer Opportunities. Here are just a few of the many ways you can help your fellow Villagers. Family can help too!

  • Shopping Buddy- Perhaps you could assist someone on their shopping trip. Some of your neighbors may have issues of Low Vision that make shopping hard. Takes about 1-1/2 hour a week.
  • Craft Assistant- Help set up our monthly craft project and help during the project. Craft lasts about 1 hour.
  • Village Market Shopper- The Village Market can always use people to do some light shopping for the store. We can use shoppers to buy food for the store on Monday mornings or either Wednesday or Thursday mornings. You may help as often as you like, either once or twice a week.
  • Koffee Klutsch Assistant- Helps assist with our Wednesday Koffee Klutsch. We put out coffee and refreshments and then sit and chat!!! Approximate time: 35 minutes
  • Librarian- Document the titles of our book collection, check in new books from the Library and maintain our check-out list. May also accept and record donated or new books. 1-2 hours per week.
  • Room Visitor- This is a very important job! You would simply stop by someone’s apartment for a quick hello, to visit awhile, to talk over coffee, play cards or whatever the Villager and you care to do. These visits are very important to those who may be feeling a little down, feeling sick, or perhaps a little shy. What could make someone feel better than a visit from a caring friend? Come as many or few times as you can.
  •  Party Assistants – The Lifestyle department ALWAYS needs help with parties! If you enjoy entertaining, come help out at a party. You may help serve cake, help someone bring a snack to their table, put out condiments, put up decorations, tidy up following the event or whatever you choose to assist with. 1 to1-1/2 hours per event
  • Bingo Helpers- You could help by calling Bingo, calling back winners cards, putting out the bingo supplies and collecting cards , collect money. On occassion, you could give out prizes. 1-2 hours per bingo session Party Assistants
  • Readers- Many of our residents love a good book but have difficulty reading due to vision loss. You could read a little from your favorite book, one of the Villager's or from one of our large print books from our monthly collection of large print books from St. Francis library. Approx. 25-35 minutes
  • Outing buddy- Help a fellow Villager on an outing. 1-2 hours depending on the length of the outing
